Our wonderful little Natupol Seed Bumblebees hives are supplied individually or in trays of 6. Each pocket-sized hive contains 15 workers, five males and male brood which ensure your plants will receive effective pollination for 6-8 weeks.
The hives contain a native British species of Bumblebee, the Bombus terrestris audax.
The hives have been designed specifically to ensure pollination in smaller growing areas and are highly recommended for seed breeding pollination, and to pollinate flowers and crops in small greenhouses and polytunnels , such as those on allotments. Each hive can pollinate an area from 1-25 square metres.
After introduction of the hive, the worker and male bumblebees start pollinating the flowers while at the same time collecting pollen to feed the brood. More workers emerge from the brood in the weeks after the introduction, increasing both colony size and pollination performance.
1. Place the Natupol Seeds hives in the areas you wish to pollinate plants.
To guarantee the best pollination results, start using the hives on receipt. The hives should not be stored but if necessary can be stored for a maximum of 1 day in conditions of 12-25°C, away from direct sunlight.
2. Wait for at least 15 minutes after placing the hives down before opening them, this allows the Bumblebees time to settle.
Natupol seeds hives perform best at ambient temperatures between 12-30°C.
3. Enjoy enhanced pollination, crop and plant growth as the bees get to work!

After some weeks the colony will reach its maximum size and start declining in size and pollination activity. Colony development depends on environmental conditions and the amount and quality of pollen.
We recommend removal of hives 6-8 weeks after introduction.
Natupol Seed hives are best suited for use in small growing areas. They can be used in greenhouses andpolytunnels.They can also be placed outside if shelter is provided for the hive to be shaded and protected from rainfall.

I purchased the Pocket Size Bumble Bee Hive(s) in 2024 and 2024. They were a delight to have. The box was buzzing when it arrived and we let them out in a walled garden we are lucky enough to have on our estate. The bees were quick to settle and stayed all summer. Not sure if they overwintered but we've had no shortage of little bumble bees over the last couple of years. They are lovely to receive and it is so excting when you open the port hole on the box and they fly out. I shall get more this year. This is my cat Nippy eager to help open the box (alas she is no longer with us).
