The Plum Fruit Moth Nematodes & Trap Bundle provides the perfect solution to Plum Fruit Moth Caterpillar and adult Plum Fruit Moth infestations. Our brilliant Plum Fruit Moth Killer Nematodes will kill the caterpillar stage of the pest, while the Plum Fruit Moth Pheromone Trap will catch and kill the male adult moths.
The bundle provides a perfect natural solution to your Plum Fruit Moth Caterpillar & adult Plum Fruit Moth infestations and will help you to combat larger, or multiple, areas of infestations.
The Plum Fruit Moth Nematodes & Trap Bundle includes:
The Plum Fruit Moth (Grapholita funebrana) lay larvae that are a common pest of Plums, Damsons and Greengages. The female moths lay their eggs near the Plum fruit and once the eggs hatch, the larvae will burrow into the fruit. The caterpillar is of pinkish-white colouring, roughly 10-12mm long, and will eat the Plums from within.
This can often mean that infestations, and damage, is not necessarily evident until Plums are cut into. When the caterpillars are fully fed they will exit the plum, leaving a small hole. Infected fruit often ripen prematurely, and caterpillars will leave excrement within the fruit after feeding on it.
1. Firstly, use our Plum Fruit Moth Traps:
The first step in protecting your plants is to set up your Plum FruitMoth Trap. This will assist you in catching, monitoring and killing male Plum Fruit Moths. Once these adult moths are observed, it is likely that the Plum Fruit Moth Caterpillars will follow a few weeks later. By pre-empting their activity, and reducing moth numbers, you will have a greater chance of limiting a severe infestation. Moth mating and egg laying will also be reduced as a result. One trap and lure will cover 16-20 trees.
2. Next, apply our Plum Fruit Moth Killer Nematodes:
Nematodes can be used as an effective form of biological control against the caterpillars. The most effective species of nematode for Plum Fruit Moth control is the Steinernema species, which is contained within our Plum Fruit Moth Killer Nematode pack. Apply these nematodes as soon as small caterpillars are observed and spray them directly onto the caterpillar pests.
You may wish to consider supplementing your bundle with our Nema Super Sprayer if you are seeking an easier method of applying your nematodes. The Nema Super Sprayer can be found here.
The timing is critical in applying the Plum Fruit Moth Killer nematodes as they must reach the Plum Fruit Moth larvae at the stage in their life cycle when they are located on Plum tree trunks, lower branches, or in the soil bases of these trees.
We advise two applications of Plum Fruit Moth Killer Nematodes; one in early spring, around April, as the moths return from overwintering, and again in late summer, around September, before they begin to overwinter.
Place the traps out by mid-May. The Plum Fruit Moths will normally fly from late May.
