What Are Ladybirds?

Our Ladybird predators are native to the U.K. and are often referred to as the Two Spotted Ladybird (Adalia bipunctata). The Ladybirds, and their larvae, are highly efficient predators of Aphids (also known as Greenfly/Blackfly) and other insect pests.

During the winter months the Ladybirds will hibernate in window frames, walls, log piles or trees, and emerge to mate in the spring. The female Ladybirds will lay between 20-50 eggs per day. These eggs will develop into Ladybird larvae (which also feed on Aphids) and, after three weeks of feeding, will develop into adults.

What Are Ladybird Larvae?

Ladybird larvae are potent predators of Aphids (also known as Greenfly & Blackfly). This native Ladybird (Adalia bipunctata) is also known as the Two Spotted Ladybird and can consume up to 100 aphids each day.

The initial advantage of using Ladybird larvae is the sheer number of Aphids that will be consumed. Ladybird larvae, as they develop, will simply consume huge quantities of Aphids. The Ladybird larvae also roughly stay situated in the same area as to where they were released. This makes direct application onto infestations straightforward. Both Ladybird larvae, and Ladybird adults will feed on Aphids, which ensures you will benefit from having the Ladybirds on your plants for multiple stages of their life cycle.

When Should I Use My Bundle?

For indoor use of Ladybird Larvae and Ladybird Adults: they should be released from March to September.

For outdoor use of Ladybird Larvae and Ladybird Adults: they should be released from May to September.

What Conditions Do The Ladybird Adults & Larvae Require?

Ladybird adults and larvae can be used in temperatures above 10℃ indoors or outdoors. The optimum temperature however has been proven to be above 15℃. Ladybird adults and larvae should only be introduced once pests are present.

Unsure at the moment.

The larvae and near-adult ladybirds arrived all right but, of course, I have no idea whether they are working as they all disappeared almost immediately. There are no visible green and blackfly now but they had almost disappeared when the ladybirds arrived, so I hope they didn't starve.

Couldn't really find much in the way of ladybugs or larvae in the packaging. Didn't seem much life in them. Aphids won.

Hi Lorraine

So sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with the product on this occasion. Sometimes it can take a little while for the Ladybirds and larvae to become fully active after the journey to you but if you believe your order may have been damaged, and you can identify casualties, we do offer an 'arrive alive guarantee' which ensures any product that arrives with customers dead will be replaced free of charge.

These instances are rare but sometimes the actions of couriers can damage products during transit. If you believe this to have been the case please don't hesitate to contact our customer service team and we'll look at some compensation measures for you.

Kind regards,

Julian Ives [Director, Dragonfli]
