There are several species of Spider Mite with the most common being the Two Spotted Spider Mite (tetranychus urticae). These mites have an oval body and eight legs. They vary in colour from green, yellow, orange-red and dark brown. The eggs are circular and generally located on the underside of leaves. The damage will be evident with the yellowing of leaves, especially on the underside. Yellow dots will also show on top with the whole leaf eventually turning yellow. Spider Mites can also produce webbing on leaves when the population is high.
Spidex Vital Plus sachets contain our most effective natural Spider Mite predator, Phytoseiulus persimilis. The sachets have been designed to ensure prolonged release of the predators onto your plants by including a food source for the predators. This enhances predator breeding, increases predator release and offers effective sustained control over Spider Mite pests.
The Phytoseiulus predators kill the Spider Mites by piercing the pests and sucking out their body contents. Each sachet produces new Phytoseiulus persimilis predators over a period of weeks. The predators change colour from white to red-orange once they have consumed several Spider Mites.
The newly designed and innovative rearing system established within the Spidex Vital Plus sachets ensures that the Phytoseiulus persimilis predators multiply and disperse over infested plants for several weeks.
The new sachets have also been specifically designed to combat larger infestations of Spider Mite. The predators are timed for release in a formation that overwhelms Spider Mite infestations, whereby a 'dam' of predators surround Spider Mite pests and prevents them from breaking out and infesting more of your plants.
Infestations are more likely to be eradicated in their entirety by such a constant release of predators.
Spidex Vital Plus is effective against all life cycle stages of the Two Spotted Spider Mite, but prefers to feed on the younger life cycle stages.
Spidex Vital Plus predators will feed on all stages of the Spider Mite life cycle but they prefer to feed on the younger mites and eggs. Apply to plants as soon as Spider Mite are observed.
Relative humidity should be above 70%.Spidex Vital predators are active in temperatures between 13-27℃.
Apply at least one sachet per infested plant and several sachets if there is a heavy infestation, or if treating an infestation on a large plant.
The Spidex Vital Plus sachets should be hung from their cardboard strip onto plants infested with Spider Mites. The sachets already contain an emergence hole so please do not attempt to open them. Once hung from your plants, the predators will gradually emerge to seek out and kill the Spider Mites.
Full application instructions are provided on delivery.
Spidex Vital Plus sachets will continue to release predators onto your plants for longer periods than our previous Spidex Boost sachets .
We would recommend introducing the sachets every two weeks until control is achieved.
Slow release sachets of other spider mite predators, such as Amblyseius californicus, can be used in combination with Spidex Vital Plus to extend Spider Mite control over a number of weeks.
Spidex Vital Plus sachets should be applied to plants as soon as possible after receipt. The sachets can be stored for 1-2 days at 8-10℃ in a dark place, if required, but it is highly preferable for them to be applied quickly.
Spidex Vital Plus contains living creatures and can be affected by any chemical pesticides used within the previous few weeks. As a general guide, refrain from using Natural Pyrethrum or SB Plant Invigorator 2 days prior to use. Other chemical insecticides can have long lasting residues that could harm the predatory mites for much longer periods. Refrain from using these products or check with Dragonfli for information on the effect of these products on the predatory mites.
Just as you can be allergic to cats, pollen, and dust mites, it is also possible to be allergic to the natural substances in predatory mites, feeder mites, and supplementary feeding products. If you are particularly allergy prone and concerned about the potential effects of our mites please contact your local GP prior to purchase. Please note that allergic reactions to our mites are extremely rare.
