Small Garden Wireworm Killer Nematodes

What Are Wireworms?

Wireworms are the larvae of Click Beetles (Agriotes spp), beetles which when disturbed will lie on their back feigning death before suddenly propelling themselves into the air with an audible click, hence the name! The Wireworm larvae are a damaging pest and will feed on plant roots, boring into the base of plants. This can cause plants to wilt and die with damage being commonly fatal to young plants.

Adult Agriotis sp. are 6-10 mm long and yellowish brown to black. The larvae (‘wireworms’) are long, thin, cylindrical and though skinned. They are up to 25 mm long and usually shiny yellowish brown or light brown with a darker head.

What Are Wireworm Killer Nematodes & How Can They Help?

Naturally and safely control your Wireworm infestation with our Wireworm Killer Nematodes, which are deadly to Wireworm larvae but safe to humans, pets and wildlife. Dragonfli Wireworm Killer contain Steinernema species nematodes that enter the Wireworm larvae via a natural opening, like the mouth, and feed on the pest from inside it. A natural bacterium is produced by the nematodes inside the larvae, which kills it. Infected larvae will be completely broken down by the nematodes. The nematodes also reproduce inside the larvae, releasing more nematodes into the surrounding area.

Use Small Garden Wireworm Killer To Combat Wireworms Identified In Smaller Raised Beds & Vegetable Plots

Our Small Garden Wireworm Killer Nematodes are ideal for those looking to treat and protect a smaller surface area of raised beds or vegetable plots infested with Wireworms.

Our 20sqm pack size contains one sachet of 10million Steinernema species nematodes which can be easily applied to smaller patches of garden or vegetable patches that are infested with Wireworms.

When Should I Apply The Nematodes?

The eggs are laid in May or June in groups in the soil. They hatch about one month later and the larvae start to feed on roots. So we would recommend applying your nematodes in the summer from May onwards.

Larval development takes 4 to 5 years. When fully grown the larvae pupate in the soil in summer. The adults appear about 4 weeks after pupation, but usually remain in the soil until the following spring.

How Many Nematodes Do I Need?

This Small Garden range pack size has been specifically designed to treat areas of up to 20 square metres. This makes the packs more suited for treating smaller gardens, and individual plants, or for targeted treatment of particular sites of infestation.

If looking to treat larger areas, or heavier infestations of Wireworm, see our standard sized Wireworm Killer Nematodes which are available in 4 larger treatment sizes.

How Do I Apply The Nematodes?

(The following instruction measurements apply to the 10m2 pack)

1. Open pack and empty entire contents into 1 litre of lukewarm water in a bucket. Mix and break up any lumps. This ensures even distribution of nematodes in solution.

2. Take 0.5 litres of solution and add to watering can with up to 10 litres of clean water. One pack will make 2 watering cans (including concentrate solution).

3. Apply to your vegetable beds using a coarse rose / nozzle. One watering can treat up to 10 square metres. The nematodes can also be applied with some hose end feeder / nematode applicators & sprayers such as our Nema Super Sprayer.

Water area treated after use and keep moist for a week after application. Repeat application, if required, every four weeks until no more Wireworm are present.

Full application instructions are provided on delivery.

Can I Store Nematodes?

You can store unopened nematode packs in a fridge but it is best to ensure you apply your nematodes as soon as possible for the best results.

Wireworm Killer Nematodes are harmless to humans, pets and wildlife, and safe to apply to edible plants.
