Aphiscout Aphid Killer - Parasitic Wasp Mix

Quantity

What Are Aphids & How Do I Identify Them?

Aphid is a name for a large group of insects, many of which can cause serious damage to plants. They extract sap from plants causing a reduction in plant growth, reduced yields, and sometimes defoliation. Aphids can also secrete toxic substances into the plants. The Aphids take proteins from the sap and then excrete the excess sugar left in the sap back onto plants. This causes a sticky mess on the leaves, which black molds often grow on.

Aphids are soft bodied and often shed white skins onto leaves. Adult Aphids can be green, yellow, pink, black, grey or brown.

What Does Aphiscout Contain & How Can It Help?

Aphiscout consists of a new mix of five different Aphid parasites for optimum control of multiple Aphid (also known as Greenfly & Blackfly) species. Some Aphid parasites do not attack certain species of Aphids, therefore, in combining five different Aphid parasites, this product offers greater protection over Aphid infestations. Aphiscout contains around 250 mummies. The percentage breakup of parasites included is as listed:
  • 40%: Praon volucre
  • 20%: Aphidius colemani
  • 15%: Aphidius ervi
  • 15%: Aphelinus abdominalis
  • 10%: Ephedrus cerasicola

How Do I Apply Aphiscout?

The Aphiscout parasites are suppled in a cardboard cylinder container. This features a nectar pad for the hatched parasites to gain energy from before they search for Aphids to parasitise and kill. The cylinder also consists of a double layered label which can be used to suspend the opened cylinder in the crop or amongst plants. The parasites will hatch from the cylinder and start to search for Aphids.

Full application instructions will be provided on delivery.

Where Should I Use Aphiscout?

Use Aphiscout for indoor protection against Aphids in greenhouses and protected structures.

What Conditions Are Required For Effective Use Of Aphiscout?

The Aphiscout wasps are active in temperatures ranging from 16-30℃.

How Much Aphiscout Do I Need?

One unit will treat an area of up to 200m2

Repeat applications may be required for heavy infestations of Aphids, or if treating Aphids over a season. In such cases it is recommended that you introduce the Aphiscout every 2 weeks (in a peak Aphid season).

In cases of lighter infestation, it is recommended that the Aphiscout is introduced for at least 3 weeks.

Large Aphid colonies may also require the introduction of Lacewing larvae and Ladybird larvae.

Chemical Pesticides

Aphiscout contains living creatures that can be affected by any chemical pesticides used within the previous few weeks. As a general guide, refrain from using Natural Pyrethrum or SB Plant Invigorator 2 days prior to use. Other chemical insecticides can have long lasting residues that could harm the Aphiscout parasites and others for much longer periods. Refrain from using these products or check with Dragonfli for information on the effect of these products on our predators.

temperature requirements

Don't know yet how/if these are working. Concerned to see on instructions that they require temperatures between 16 and 30 - no way my glasshouse can keep minimum of 16. Nothing of this was on website.

Arrived dead, so rubbish really. You're thrn forced really to pay an extra tenner for postage because arriving by regular post they arrive dead ! Even when you've already spent well over a hundred quid !

Hi Janette,

So sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with the product on this occasion. Sometimes the parasitic wasps may appear inactive when in fact the majority are still yet to hatch and emerge from the mummified insects they are supplied in. It can sometimes take a couple of days for all of the wasps to fly out from the tube.

In any case we do offer an 'arrive alive guarantee' which ensures any product that arrives with customers dead will be replaced free of charge. These instances are rare but sometimes the actions of couriers can damage products during transit. If you believe this to have been the case in your instance please don't hesitate to contact our customer service team and we'll look at some compensation measures for you.

Kind regards,

Julian Ives [Director, Dragonfli]
