What Are Chicken Mites?

The Red Mite, or Chicken Mite (Dermanyssus gallinae) is a nasty parasite of birds; and particularly of poultry and chickens. The mite feeds on the blood of the birds, which causes stress and anaemia. These symptoms can become so severe that they lead to increased pecking, and in some cases, cannibalism. Chickens may also produce a decreased egg yield. Chemical treatments are difficult and largely ineffective as they mostly only target adult mites.

What Is Androlis & How Can It Help?

Androlis predatory mites will feed on the Red Mite and Northern Fowl Mite. They kill all stages of the parasites from egg to adult. Androlis is easy to use and 100% safe for the birds, the environment and humans.

Androlis predators feed on the Red Mites once the mites have fed and fallen off the birds. The Androlis mites do not go onto the birds themselves.

How Do I Apply The Androlis?

Androlis should be applied to the floor of chicken coops, next to roosting areas or directly into nests. The Androlis will then seek out the harmful mites and consume them. Androlis can be applied preventively or curatively.

Please note that if you have applied Diatomaceous Earth to your coop we recommend you wait 3 weeks before applying Androlis as this substance can be harmful to the predators.Other chemical insecticides can have long lasting residues that could harm the Androlis for longer periods. Refrain from using these products or check with Dragonfli for information on the effect of these products.

Full instructions are provided on delivery.

Apply Androlis Medium Unit Sizes Easily With Coop Clips

Medium unit sized Androlis bottles can be applied easily with our Coop Clips. Simply attach the Coop Clip to the chicken house, push out the middle section of the red Androlis bottle lid, and fit the bottle into the dispenser. The Coop Clip will then allow for a slow release of Androlis predators into infested, and hard to reach, areas.

How Much Androlis Do I Need?

We supply four main unit sizes. See them listed below:

Androlis M: Treats up to 15 birds

Androlis L:  Treats up to 30 birds

Androlis XL: Treats up to 100 birds

Androlis XXL: Treats up to 200 birds

Repeat treatments should be made every 4-8 weeks depending on the level of infestation.

What Conditions Do Androlis Mites Require?

Androlis predators will not be active under 12, and activity will decrease with falling temperatures. Treatment outside of spring and summer is advised for customers with heated aviaries only.

Consider Mite Dispenser Tubes For Added Flexibility To Androlis Applications

Our Mite Booster Dispenser Tubes are another useful tool for applying predatory mites to areas that can be difficult to reach with sprinkler bottles, or tubs, of our predators. The Mite Booster Dispenser Tubes can be used in the application of Taurrus predatory mites for Snake Mite control, as well as Androlis predatory mites for Red Mite control.

Allergy Information

Just as you can be allergic to cats, pollen, and dust mites, it is also possible to be allergic to the natural substances in predatory mites, feeder mites, and supplementary feeding products. If you are particularly allergy prone and concerned about the potential effects of our mites please contact your local GP prior to purchase. Please note that allergic reactions to our mites are extremely rare.

Good product

Ordered these for my coop but unfortunately they weren't as effective as the time before. The company responded to me and they said about their arrive alive guarantee so offered my a new batch which is currently working wonders. The chickens are happy again 😁

Wanted it to work

When I came across this product I was really happy. What could be better! So easy to use and harmless to the environment.
I didn’t have a huge infestation to start with but wanted to get on top of it right away. (Got to June with no problems) in my small coop/hut for 3 of my old ladies I feel it has worked really well. In my big coop for the other 7 girls, the red mites are visible on the main door hinge area.
I don’t know if I’ve given it enough time to balance out yet. It’s been aprox 2-3 weeks. I haven’t used any other sprays when cleaning out but neither have I been itchy at all after cleaning. So there are signs it’s working.
It might be that it becomes part of the solution which chicken keeping but not a complete solve all my problems.
Nature is nature after all!

Unfortunately just as Dragonfli sent them we had an unexpected cold snap. I did put them in my coop as instructions said I couldn't store them more than a couple of days, but I guess it was too cold for them so I haven't seen any results at all. I'm pretty disappointed as they cost around £50 so a big waste of money. If you live in the UK and don't have a heated coop I think you need to wait until at least June to be certain it will be warm enough for them. Unfortunately the red mites are active at much lower temperatures and we already have a good going infestation.

Hi Molly,

So sorry to hear that you did not enjoy a successful application on this occasion. We do indeed advise that treatment outside of Spring & Summer should only be considered for customers with heated coops as the Androlis predators will not be active under 12℃.

You were unfortunate, however, to have ordered and received your predators in an unseasonably cold spell as in other years the timing would have been perfectly suitable for these predators.

In light of your misfortune, and with the hope that you'll next be able to see the results these terrific predators can bring, we would be happy to offer you a compensatory Androlis order.

Please contact our customer service team and we'll get this resolved for you.

Kind regards, Julian Ives [Director, Dragonfli]

Unfortunately didn't work for us, despite using 2 of the biggest tubs plus a large tub. 50 chickens. I think it may have reduced numbers a bit. But they die in cold weather so should only really be sold in spring and early summer in my opinion.ay try again in spring but it was an expensive mistake!

Hi there,

Thank you for your comments and for shopping with us. I am very sorry to hear you had an ineffectual treatment on this occasion. We do advise on the product page that Androlis predators are inactive in temperatures under 12℃, but continue to sell this product out of season as it remains effective for customers with heated aviaries. Regardless of this, and as a gesture of goodwill, please contact our customer service team and we will look at some reimbursement options for you. Kind regards, Julian Ives [Director, Dragonfli]
