What Are Chicken Mites?

The Red Mite, or Chicken Mite (Dermanyssus gallinae) is a nasty parasite of birds; and particularly of poultry and chickens. The mite feeds on the blood of the birds, which causes stress and anaemia. These symptoms can become so severe that they lead to increased pecking, and in some cases, cannibalism. Chickens may also produce a decreased egg yield. Chemical treatments are difficult and largely ineffective as they mostly only target adult mites.

What Is Androlis & How Can It Help?

Androlis predatory mites will feed on the Red Mite and Northern Fowl Mite. They kill all stages of the parasites from egg to adult. Androlis is easy to use and 100% safe for the birds, the environment and humans.

Androlis predators feed on the Red Mites once the mites have fed and fallen off the birds. The Androlis mites do not go onto the birds themselves.

How Do I Apply The Androlis?

Androlis should be applied to the floor of chicken coops, next to roosting areas or directly into nests. The Androlis will then seek out the harmful mites and consume them. Androlis can be applied preventively or curatively.

Please note that if you have applied Diatomaceous Earth to your coop we recommend you wait 3 weeks before applying Androlis as this substance can be harmful to the predators.Other chemical insecticides can have long lasting residues that could harm the Androlis for longer periods. Refrain from using these products or check with Dragonfli for information on the effect of these products.

Apply Androlis Medium Unit Sizes Easily With Coop Clips

Medium unit sized Androlis bottles can be applied easily with our Coop Clips. Simply attach the Coop Clip to the chicken house, push out the middle section of the red Androlis bottle lid, and fit the bottle into the dispenser. The Coop Clip will then allow for a slow release of Androlis predators into infested, and hard to reach, areas.

How Much Androlis Do I Need?

We supply four main unit sizes. See them listed below:

Androlis M: Treats up to 15 birds

Androlis L:  Treats up to 30 birds

Androlis XL: Treats up to 100 birds

Androlis XXL: Treats up to 200 birds

Repeat treatments should be made every 4-8 weeks depending on the level of infestation.

What Conditions Do Androlis Mites Require?

Androlis predators will not be active under 12, and activity will decrease with falling temperatures. Treatment outside of spring and summer is advised for customers with heated aviaries only.

Consider Mite Dispenser Tubes For Added Flexibility To Androlis Applications

Our Mite Booster Dispenser Tubes are another useful tool for applying predatory mites to areas that can be difficult to reach with sprinkler bottles, or tubs, of our predators. The Mite Booster Dispenser Tubes can be used in the application of Taurrus predatory mites for Snake Mite control, as well as Androlis predatory mites for Red Mite control.

Allergy Information

Just as you can be allergic to cats, pollen, and dust mites, it is also possible to be allergic to the natural substances in predatory mites, feeder mites, and supplementary feeding products. If you are particularly allergy prone and concerned about the potential effects of our mites please contact your local GP prior to purchase. Please note that allergic reactions to our mites are extremely rare.

Thank goodness for Androlis!

I have 2 plastic coops which are not supposed to harbour mites but for the last couple of summers they have! No amount of diatom powder would make a difference. The infestation in one house was really dreadful a couple of weeks ago but now is all under control thanks to the Androlis mites! Would definitely recommend:)

Absolutely brilliant!

These creatures are amazing, and apparently voracious. Last hot spell the mites exploded in population and I quickly lost a couple of hens, it was just awful. I ordered these after doing a thorough clean, and then realising I couldn't use them after using biocide spray, I popped them in the fridge for a couple of weeks. I had to keep down the mite population with a blowtorch until it was safe to release the mites, but all this hot weather later and no problems at all. Delighted.
