Fungus Fly predator mites contains 10,000 predatory mites called Stratiolaelaps scimitus. They have just been re-named and were known as Hypoaspis miles. These tiny predatory mites are normally oberved in and at soil level feeding on eggs and larvae of  fungus fly [ sciarid fly larvae ] , springtails and  thrip pupae. More recently they have been observed and used for control of mites that attack snakes and ornamental snails.

The predator mites can also survive quite long periods without food, up to 4 weeks. However egg laying will cease if no food supply. They prefer to live dark damp places , where the soil or growing media is moist but not to wet. Predator mite 10000 is supplied with some storage mites mixed in with the carrier material. These mites are harmless and provide an additional food supply for the predatory mites during transport.

On receipt of Predator mite 10,000, keep the bottle horizontal and apply within 1-2 days of receipt.

Application against Fungus fly larvae [ sciarid ], springtails and thrip pupae:

  • Turn and shake the bottle before use
  • Spread the contents of the bottle evenly on the soil/growing media or rockwool blocks
  • Minimum temperature should be 15.c

Last chance to treat Leatherjacket larvae

This short, fat leatherjacket  larvae does a lot of damage to lawns from August through to the end of October. The recent warm weather does enable later applications but should not be delayed to long now.

Once you have evidence of this grub under your grass, it is time to apply nematodes.

Available in many sizes -  100m2, 500m2 , these nematodes will seek out and destroy Leatherjacket larvae within 14 days of use. Can be applied by watering can or hose end nozzle.

This is a natural solution for leatherjackets in lawns. Leatherjackets are the larvae of crane flies, otherwise known as Daddy-long-Legs. The majority of the eggs are laid late summer and develop into Leatherjacket larvae in the late summer- early autumn.

Stop these horrible pests ruining your lawn by using a biological control.
