Box Tree Moth Pheromone Lure

Number of Lures

Use Our Highly Effective Pheromone Lures In Our Box Tree Caterpillar Moth Traps

This highly attractive pheromone lure has been designed specifically to attract adult male Box Tree Caterpillar Moths into traps.

This helps reduce the male numbers of the moth and effectively stops their reproduction; breaking the life cycle and giving complete control over the pest.

Our Pheromone Lures Provide The Best Results

There are lures available that are marketed to last all season but research has proven, however, that such lures are less effective in catching Box Tree Moths. Trials were carried by Dragonfli and the RHS at Hyde Hall Gardens which compared Box Tree pheromone lure types. The results found that the longer life lures caught far fewer moths than our standard lures.

We believe it is favourable to use our standard Box Tree Pheromone Lures and replace them every six weeks to achieve maximum catch rate of the male Box Tree Moths. It is also good practice to remove caught moths from the traps every six weeks.

How Do I Set Up The Lures Inside The Traps?

Each lure is supplied in a foil sachet. Remove the lure from the sachet and place it in the lure cage at the top of the trap.

Can I Store The Lures?

If lures are to be stored and not used upon receipt, you may store them in a fridge or freezer.

When Should I Use The Lures In My Traps?

There can be several generations of Box tree Caterpillars in a season. They are active from April - October, so traps should be set during this period.

How Long Do The Lures Last?

Each lure lasts up to six weeks when used with one of our unique traps. These replacement lures can be used as required, to cover a whole season and reduce damage to your Box Tree plants or hedges.

What Distance Will A Box Tree Lure Cover?

One lure inside a trap will cover 180m

More information on how to treat Box Tree Caterpillars can be found on the product listings for our Box Tree Caterpillar Killer Nematodes and Box Tree Caterpillar Pheromone Traps.

Catches lots of moths

Sad to see the beautiful male box moths fluttering around inside our traps until they eventually give up the ghost - but great that they're not out there helping their female mates to produce vast numbers of fertile eggs. I order 5 lures per trap every year - 10 in total - to take us through from April to October and I mark my online diary to ensure that I change them every 6 weeks. Virtually no caterpillar damage last year - hoping for the same this year.

A combination of moth trap, spray and box-specific spray and feed has rescued our 100-year old hedge from near death.

It works.

Box tree caterpillars decimated my box plants a couple years ago. I have since managed to control them using the pheromone trap. Numerous moths caught.

Need advice

I need advice
Bought 11 tree lures for box hedge and put them into freezer
I did not realise I needed traps .how many do I need for a 6m boxhedge
Please advise

Hi Herta,

Many thanks for getting in touch and for ordering with us.

You will indeed need a Box Tree Moth Pheromone Trap in order to make use of the pheromone lures. For the size of your box hedging only one trap will be required, each trap will cover an area of approximately 180m2.

You were absolutely right to store the pheromone lures in the freezer and we would always advise this if they are not be used on receipt. So I would suggest to get your trap ordered now and place one of the lures within the trap once you receive it. Printed application instructions are provided with the trap but are also available to read for free on our website.

The additional lures should be kept in your freezer and can be used successively upon expiration of each active lure. Each lure will remain potent in your trap for up to 6 weeks.

I hope this helps but of course if you ever need any further advice please just give us a shout and we'd be more than happy to help.

Kind regards,

Julian Ives [Director, Dragonfli]
