Capsanem [ Leatherjacket Killer ] contains 2 packs of 250 million entomopathogenic nematodes for the control of Leatherjackets in lawns and grass areas. The nematode species is Steinernema carpocapsae, which is the most effective nematode for the control of Leatherjacket grubs. The adults are often known as Daddy-long-legs or Crane flies.

Leatherjackets eat the roots of grass, causing severe root damage. This can ultimately kill the grass and turns large areas of lawns yellow. Leatherjacket larvae normally appear about 2 weeks after the adults are seen flying. The adults lay eggs that quickly become larvae, which chew on the roots of grass. Damaged grass can easily be pulled up due to root death. Animals and birds are also attracted infested lawns. They then dig up the lawn looking for the Leatherjacket grubs to eat. As temperatures fall the grubs sink deeper into the earth to overwinter. They then rise to the surface again when temperatures rise. The optimum time period for applying Capsanem in the UK is between late August and October. Nematodes for Leatherjacket control are less effective in the spring.

Capsanem [ Leatherjacket Killer ] is applied with water as a drench to the lawn. Lawns need to be kept moist at time of application and kept moist for a period of days after application. Nematodes can be stored in a fridge, if the packs are un-opened, for a period of up to 3 weeks, subject to production date.

Capsanem 500 million is the largest pack available of Steinernema carpocapsae. It is supplied as two units of 250 million nematodes. Each unit can treat up to 500 square metres with atotal coverage area for both packs of 1000 square metres.

It provides a safe, natural and pet friendly method of Leatherjacket control in lawns.
