Sportnem H 10 x 250 million  treats an area of lawn/turf up to 5000 square metres and contains the insect pathogenic nematode; Heterorhabditis bacteriophora for the targeting of Chafer grubs in turf. The Sportnem range has been developed for use by professionals responsible for turf  care and management.

Adult chafers are often seen in May/June , with small grubs hatching from July onwards. These grubs immediately start feeding and are fully grown by the autumn, causing extensive primary and secondary damage. The primary damage often shows as yellowing of turf, where the grubs are feeding on the roots. The secondary damage is often worse when badgers and birds are attracted to the grubs to feed on. They then pull back large areas of turf to feed on the grubs.

As soil temperatures drop, the grubs stop feeding and go deeper into the soil. During the spring , they crawl closer to the surface, pupate and emerge as adults in May/June.

Timing is crucial for nematode applications and repeat applications maybe required for certain species of Chafer grubs. The optimum time for application is when the chafer grubs are small in the late summer. Sportnem H can be applied from late July -  October depending on weather conditions.

Nematodes are sensitive to high  U.V, so should be applied on dull days with plenty of irrigation. Turf should be watered prior to application and after. The addition of an adjuvant/ penetrant will also aid the nematodes progress into the soil beneath the turf.

Once a nematode has found and penetrated a pest larva through a body opening, it begins its destructive work on the pest. In order to convert the larvae into food , the nematode releases symbiotic bacteria. These bacteria spread throughout the larvae, multiplying rapidly while feeding on the host tissue and converting it into a form easily taken up by nematodes. The infected larvae die within a few days but the beneficial nematodes continue to multiply and develop in the host larvae. As soon as the nematodes are in the infectious third stage, they leave the host and start serching for new targets. The nematode population will slowly decrease once there are no new hosts present. These nematodes have no negative effects on plants and are not harmful to humans, birds, fish or mammals.

On receipt of Sportnem H, it is advised to apply quickly or to store in a fridge until a suitable application time, the product can be fridge stored for up to two weeks.

Sportnem-H is supplied as 10 x 250 million packs of nematodes, which treats an area up to 5000 square metres.

Spider Mite Control

Red Spider Mite is one of those pests that simply refuses to be controlled at times. Luckily we have a few great options to hammer down pest populations and stay on top of the problem.
Spider Mite Killer – Phytoseiulus persimilis predators are fantastic for use when red spider mite is present in large numbers. This hungry predator will munch through up to 20 red spider mites per day. Available in a number of sizes to suit your treatment area.
Spider Mite Killer Sachets- Amblyseius andersoni predators are excellent when used as a preventative or long term control method for spider mites. Utilising the ability to feed on pollen even when prey is sparse these predators can survive for longer allowing introduction before infestations can build up. These predators feed on eggs, young and adult spider mites making them ideal to break pest life cycles long term.
