Vine Weevil Killer nematodes ( low temp) contains 50 million Steinernema species nematodes to treat against Vine Weevil larvae in cooler conditions, such as the spring, late autumn, winter or under un-heated glass.

Vine weevil activity  can continue all year round if in heated or warmer conditions. The larvae may also start to feed on plant roots earlier after the winter if under glass or protected areas. Steinernema nematodes are active at lower temperatures than the species we use in the summer months, when soil or compost is warmer. If Vine weevil larvae are active early, it is sensible to try and kill the overwintering generation and any new larvae that are formed from adult egg laying.Vine Weevil Killer [spring] nematodes provide  a safe, natural and biological control solution to this damaging plant pest.

Vine weevil larvae if left un-treated can cause severe damage to plant roots, sometimes resulting in plant death due to the root system being destroyed. Vine weevils attack many species of plants and there are few controls for the adults, so it is important to target the larvae with nematodes.

Nematodes provide an easy and safe control method for this harmful plant pest.

  • Ensure treated compost/soil is moist or damp before treatment.
  • Ground temperatures must not be below 5C.
  • Use when Vine Weevil larvae are present.
  • Mix the entire contents of the pack into a five litre bucket of tepid water, this makes the concentrate to work from
  • Take 0.5 litre of the concentrate and add to 8 litres or a 2 gallon water can of water and mix
  • Use a coarse rose on the watering can
  • Water the solution into the soil or compost
  • One pack will make up to 10 watering cans [ knapsack sprayers can also be used for application when filters are removed ]

The nematodes will start attcking vine weevil larvae within hours of the treatment. Infected larvae trurn brown after the nematodes kill them. The nematodes use the larvae to reproduce in producing more nematodes. These nematodes are safe to humans, pets and wildlife. It maybe required to repeat treatments in high infestations or later in the season.
