The Large Solitary Bee nester is the ultimate in Solitary bee habitat designs. It is made from FSC sourced timber to a very high specification. The Large Solitary bee nester provides a large amount of nesting tubes for Solitary bees to seed and develop in. It also incorporates a variety of different nesting sites in the design. Some are different sizes to attract different species of Solitary bees. Each hole or tube could house between 1-6 bees per tube each year.

There is also a strong educational element to the design. A number of the Solitary bee nesting holes are built into small shelves, which can be slided in and out. This can can be used for observing the development of the Solitary bees or for cleaning the tubes after use or harvesting the Solitary bee cocoons. It is recommended that the Solitary bee tubes are cleaned or replaced every few years to prevent the build up of parasites and disease.

A solid lid on the top of the Large Solitary Bee Nester is hinged for extra access for maintenance or observing the development of the bees.

Solitary bee nesting tubes once seeded can be vulnerable to attack from wood peckers who empty the tubes. The Large Solitary Bee Nester has a protective mesh fiiting over the front, which prevents attack from birds.

The large Solitary Bee Nester is capable of producing a huge amount of Solitary bees, which can go onto provide very valuable pollination in the local area. The Nester should be sited facing south -south east on a solid wall fence or tree. It is ideal for  use in orchards, large gardens or educational sites.

Solitary bees will be able to lay eggs and develop in the Large Solitary bee nester for many years.

Last chance to treat Leatherjacket larvae

This short, fat leatherjacket  larvae does a lot of damage to lawns from August through to the end of October. The recent warm weather does enable later applications but should not be delayed to long now.

Once you have evidence of this grub under your grass, it is time to apply nematodes.

Available in many sizes -  100m2, 500m2 , these nematodes will seek out and destroy Leatherjacket larvae within 14 days of use. Can be applied by watering can or hose end nozzle.

This is a natural solution for leatherjackets in lawns. Leatherjackets are the larvae of crane flies, otherwise known as Daddy-long-Legs. The majority of the eggs are laid late summer and develop into Leatherjacket larvae in the late summer- early autumn.

Stop these horrible pests ruining your lawn by using a biological control.
