Plants and Seeds

The types of plants selected for a garden or wildlife area will greatly influence the bees, birds, insects and other wildlife that will visit the area or inhabit it. Bees and Butterflies will be looking for plants with high pollen and nectar content. Birds and other wildlife will be looking for berry or nut producing trees and shrubs or plants that can offer them shelter or nesting sites. Certain plants will attract pest species like aphids, which in turn will attract beneficial insects like Ladybirds.

The loss of wild flower meadows and hedgerows has been a major factor in the decline of certain bee species and wildbirds. By choosing the seeds or plants carefully in planting schemes, these lost areas can be re-created to the benefit of wildlife and turned into wonderful living landscapes.
