Natural Enemies

Natural Enemies is the description we use for the beneficial insects that are supplied for the control of insect pests. These can be the natural enemies of plant pest insects or for other insect pests, such as those that attack poultry and reptiles.

There are several groupings;

  • Nematodes - eel worm like insects for the control of many soil borne pests e.g vine weevil control nematodes
  • Predators - insects that eat their prey, e.g. Ladybirds that eat aphids.
  • Parasites - insects that use lay their eggs in the bodies of pests, e.g Encarsia formosa for whitefly control
